Photo of the Week - Evening Sun

So for my last post in August it is time for a photo of the week and the weather has changed here quite dramatically from over 30 degrees to around 17 or even less. This is a reminded of when we had the hot times, even though it was far so hot for this scottish girl! I took this in Zurich after being at the park with friends having had a BBQ. I guess it was after 8pm and the sun is just about to set, I also like how you can see these two people in the river.

Hope everyone had a good August and looking forward to a lovely September!

WWF Beaver Walk

It is hard to believe that September is just around the corner where has the year gone and so much has happened to me!

One of the things I wanted to do much more were hikes with Alessio but for some reason I have only managed to do this one (and it was really a walk).

Back in June we went to visit the Luca and Andrea, Alessio`s uncle and aunt, we drove to Tössegg where we started our walk. It is the WWF beaver trail lovely along the banks of the river Rhein, it is about 4km and takes 1.5hours.  Not easy animals to spot certainly in the wildlife, seen them in a zoo! There are 10 information boards about these shy animals, also hands on activities too and there is proof that they are around somewhere! Luckily it was just the right temperature for this walk, it had been raining with lots of fallen trees and logs.

We decided to get the boat back from Rüdlingen you can walk back on the other side, but it was nice to sit for the short while. Once back in Tössegg we had a picnic by the river and then drove back to their flat, it was a lovely morning.

Soon my parents will arrive and Alessio will turn 6 years old, so a busy two weeks coming up!

Street Art in Zurich

Recently I seem to be always in Zurich West either going to parks, or cinema or looking for the art works for the project Art in the City. (more to come on that later)

These murals I had seen often but this time decided to take photos of them, quite impressive aren`t they!! The building I think is a warehouse for the Opera, but not totally sure!

A Day in Mahon, Menorca

Back in July Alessio and I went to Menorca for one week, there we met my parents, Elena and Mark and their kids Liam and Jamie. The last big family holiday was in Majorca so it was nice to see the smaller island next door so to speak!

On the Tuesday we all took a day trip to the capital Mahon which was quite near, once there we had a quick look at the shops. It was really to hot to walk around so we went straight to the port and onto one of the sightseeing boats. We thought this would interest the boys and keep then happy, the boat also had under water windows so everyone could the fish life.

The trip was one hour and we got a lovely breeze which was well needed and we saw lots of lovely sights. Once we landed we wandered off to find a place to eat, everyone enjoyed different tapas and a cool beer!

Then a quick wander around again before the heat sent us home and to the pool back at our resort. Alessio and I went to Mahon again as we flew from Sunday to Sunday from Zurich and the rest of the clan flew from Saturday to Saturday from Edinburgh. We transferred from the resort on Saturday morning to a beautiful hotel with wonderful views of the sea. Luckily our balcony had one of best views, as you can see of the night photo of the yachts. Alessio enjoyed the pool and I enjoyed sipping a prosecco from my balcony in the evening.

July Books and Films

More than half way through August, I realized that I had not written about the books and films for July. So here goes for the films I saw only 3 for some reason and 2 of those were kids films.

I saw with Alessio Ice Age 4 and The lorax, both good as kids films go, and then I saw The Amazing Spiderman. I really enjoyed this new version of Spiderman and like Andrew Garfield who play Peter Parker!

I read 7 books in July, I was on holiday so had the time and some were short so here goes. First was called Full Tilt by Janet Evanovich and Charlotte Hughes.

Then I read The Single Girl`s To-Do List by Lindsey Kelk, a chic lit book but I liked it.

Then in a trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater I read Shiver and Linger the first two, this has to do with wolves.

Then along with most women I read the first two books in the Fifty Shades trilogy (enough said).  And finally I read Marriage Plot by Jeffery Eugendies which I really enjoyed.

So far August is not been a busy month for films or books, but that is for next month!

P is for Patterns

Another post in the alphabet serie and I am on to the letter P which I had decided a while ago to chose the work patterns. So basically whenever I saw something that looked like a pattern I took a photo, so these photos are all taken in Holland.

The first two in a church in The Hague, then at the beach in Schevenigen, flowers from Keukenhof gardens and finally a bar in Amsterdam!

Next is the letter Q I had been really unsure what to use but now I have a word, enjoy the weekend wherever you are!

Wedding - Hannah and Markus

My B&B

My summer hols started with a bang and the first wedding of the season was in the UK, my friend Hannah got married to Markus in Worksop near to Sheffield! I flew on the Friday and the wedding was on Saturday 14th July, I was staying at a lovely B&B called The Barnes.

The wedding itself was at Worksop College where Hannah herself went and her father was the headmaster. It was really a wonderful building and grounds, they got married in the chapel which was stunning. The bride looked beautiful as she walked down the aisle with her father to Markus. We were treated to some wondeful singing from the choir, the ceremony was in English and Swiss German.

Afterwards there was an apero in the college hall as it was raining, then we sat down to a delicious meal in a giant dining hall. The tables and chairs were decorated very lovely and we got some swiss chocolates too! Also there was a tower of cheese for the guests to nibble on and of course a tradition wedding cake!

The DJ started his set and we were all off dancing the night away! Thanks to Hannah and Markus for the invite, I had a fab time!!
