Doors Galore, Belgium

Brugge

Ghent

Antwerp

Last weekend we had a lovely time in Barcelona, seeing an old friend Elena and seeing FC Barcelona play and thankfully win!

These are a collection of doors we saw in different cities in Belgium from our week back in October.
The first 5 doors are in Brugge, the next 3 doors are in Ghent and the final 4 are in Antwerp! If you know me from Instagram, then you will know I do like to post pictures of doors and I do think these are all interesting!

Tomorrow evening I am going to see David Guetta in concert with Hannah, so looking forward to that very much!

Have a good mid week!

North and South Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland

Our summer holidays last year were spent in Scotland and for one week we visited the Outer Hebrides. There are more than 100 islands in this archipelago and 15 of them are inhabited, we visited 8 islands on this trip. They are connected by either causeways, bridges or by ferry.

We left Leverburgh on the Isle of Harris by ferry and arrived in Berneray, we only stopped very briefly, driving over a causeway to arrive on North Uist. We had lunch at Lochmaddy, carried on driving through the island. We stopped a few times to admire the beaches and landscape. Our aim was to get to South Uist and our accommodation for the night. To reach South Uist, we had to drive over another causeway onto Benbecula, with a quick stop for coffee and cake. Finally only one causeway to cross over to reach South Uist and our stay for the evening. Our accommodation was the Orasay Inn, Lochcarman and basically was in the middle of nowhere, but very stunning views. We went for a lovely short walk after our dinner.

The next day we continued our drive down to the bottom of the island and to our final accommodation Polocher Inn. We visited the Kildonan Museum which has lots of information about the cultural, social and domestic history of South Uist. We all found it very interesting place and we had lunch there too.

We stopped off at Askernish Golf Club and my father and Alessio went for a bit of a wonder, myself and my mother stayed at the club for a coffee. The photos of the wildflowers is called the Machair (a Gaelic word) this refers to fertile low-lying grassy plains found on parts of Northwest coastlines of Scotland and Ireland. It was truly beautiful to see and it was everywhere.

The Polocher Inn is situated right on the sea and the view is just stunning, we went for a lovely walk along the beach. The last photo is at this Inn and Alessio looking for shells and stones.  The Inn is very good and would recommend it.

Bits of Brugge, Belgium

Since returning from Scotland after Christmas, we have not been up to much at all. At the end of January we go on our first trip of year to Barcelona and we will see FC Barcelona play again. So for now we will return to October and our week in Belgium.

We stayed in Brugge for most of our time in Belgium but did day trips to other cities. The city of Brugge is absolutely beautiful and I have wanted to visit here for a long time. It is quite a small city and very easy to navigate on foot and as there is a river,  boat trip is warranted too.

Brugge is Belgium`s best preserved medieval town and all the architectural buildings are just down right amazing. From museums, basilicas, churches, Belfry, bridges and many other building there is a lot to take in. I am sure the view from the top of the Belfry would be amazing but we didn`t fancy climbing all the steps.

The movie In Bruges can give you a good idea of how the city looks like and it is a good movie too! We found a number of good restaurants and of course we ate our fair share of waffles too and we tried lots of Belgium beer (even me who isn`t that keen on beer).

Out of all the cities we visited in Belgium, plus we also visited Rotterdam in The Netherlands, for me the best was Brugge.

Anyway the first working/school week is finished, Alessio is back at football training and matches at some point. Nothing much has happened this week and the weekend may also be a bit quiet too. I would like to see the movie Darkest Hour and also on Sunday will go for brunch with my friend Arlene, it is a birthday present from her to me.

Wishing you all a great weekend!
