This is about my life in Zurich, all the places I visit, what I get up to with my son and anything I think is good to blog about.

Zurich Fasnacht!
Zurich fasnacht, that is carnival to the rest of us was from the 7th to 9th March. The main parade was on the Sunday, Saturday saw the kid`s parade. As you can imagine it was packed to full the streets but I did manage to find a practically empty street to watch the parade.
The only down side to there being hardly anyone watching the parade is that the dressed up folk tend to come up to you and well annoy you or other stuff. One poor lass got chucked in a small cart of straw, photo number 5! Thankfully nothing happened to me, maybe because there were lots of kids for them to annoy!
This was the only fasnacht parade that I saw this year, as I am not really into it, but it is nice to see everyone dressed up and looking scary.

Walks in Au
Wine Museum |
Views of Lake Zurich |
Au Castle |
Farm |
Vineyards and a ghost house! |
The Au penisula is just a stones throw from where I work and for that reason, we go walking there every week with the kids. I have done a few posts on this area in the past and here is one more!
Well it is not the only reason, I think it is a lovely area to walk in and I enjoy going there. This particular time was at the end of February and it was lovely and sunny. The children know where to run to and wait for the rest of us to catch up. The building in the last photo is what the kids seem to call a ghost house, not sure how that rumor got started.
There are great views of Lake Zurich and if you want to keep fit you can certainly find paths that go uphill.

Photo of the Week - Beautiful Zurich
We are having really lovely weather this week, as we did last week, the problem seems to be the weekends. This weekend the Spring feeling will go away and we will get rain and cold times again.
Back to the photo it was taken on the sunday of Fasnacht (carneval) to whose who do not know the word! Everyone dressed up and parading around Zurich and if you are really unlucky maybe someone will do something to you! Some unlucky lady got lifted up and dumped into a cart of straw!
This is a really lovely part of Zurich and in the distance is the Grossmünster church, there are lots of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants to visit.

Munich
Not often you see a piano in the street! |
So a bit of time traveling for this post, back to December last year and a trip to the great city of Munich. We visited some friends and saw the Christmas markets which were lovely and enjoyed some mugs of mulled wine!
I wanted to see some new parts of Munich, having been here quite a few times already. We walked through the English Garden and visited the Christmas market there. The English gardens were really lovely and so huge, it is one of the largest public parks in the world. It is even bigger than Central Park in New York! We were super lucky with the weather, it was wonderful, a bit like the weather we have had this whole week.
To finish off the weekend we visited the Allianz Area which is home to Bayern Munich and had a tour around the stadium.
A great weekend!!

Photo of the Week - What You Looking At?
Alessio and I visited Jucker Farm in January and we had a great time. Alessio went back at the weekend and he would have enjoyed it more as it was a wonderful sunny Sunday!
The petting area is a firm favorite with him now and is always eager to go in and see the animals, which is mostly goats. When I saw this one, it just feels like he is saying "so I am on the table, you got a problem with that dude".

Lines and lines!
Last Saturday Alessio and I went to our local park for one hour, Alessio had been on at me for ages that
he wanted to go bike riding. Our local park has two smallish play areas at either end, but the location on the lake makes it lovely to visit. I realised that this was the first time at the park for maybe years, I used to always come here when he was a baby and toddler.
In spite of the late hour and it being a chilly, it was rather busy with people walking their dogs and with their children. Alessio had a great time cycling, trying to avoid the dogs and kids too! This weekend will be lovely with spring like weather, time to be out and about.
Wishing you all a great weekend!!

Photo of the Week - Zurich by Night!
Photo of the Week is from Zurich, taken at the beginning of January this year. It shows part of the old town where there are some posh shops, benches to rest and narrow streets.. It is an interesting part to walk around and then you can go up to the Lindenhof and have some great views of the city. As I have mentioned a few times that I like to take photos at night and luckily I got the moon in this shot too.

Jucker Farm - Straw Exhibits
Such a cute fluffy bunny! |
Views of Lake Pfaffikon |
The first two months of 2014 are finished and looking back have not been to hardly any places, but I did go here. You may know of Jucker farm from the pumpkins exhibitions they have every autumn but this is new, the straw festival.
Alessio and I went at the end of January with our neighbours Barbara and her daughter Alessia, luckily it was a clear blue sky day. As soon as we arrived the kids just wanted to play on the giant haystack, but we told them first to should look around at the exhibits. Afterwards we all went to eat and the kids played in the playground, Barbara and I looked around the shop as she had never been to the place before.
With a sprinkling of snow on the ground the views were nice and there was the fire lit with the possibility to grill your own sausage. The only thing is that if it is really very cold then you do want not to sit outside, even if the kids do want to play outside. An afternoon or morning is enough to see everything and eat, it remains to be seen if this will be as successful as the pumpkin one.
