Erlenbach Art in the Park

 

Hello again! I now work in Erlenbach, which is on the other side of the lake and I also take public transport. I hardly use my car anymore!

In the Rössli Park in Erlenbach, at the moment there are the above art installations. There is information about the art piece. I am now sure what to think about these pieces to be honest. But is it nice to be able to experience art outside and not have to pay an entrance fee.

In other news I am trying to plan or think about holidays and hope to goodness that Covid does not spoil them. I am slowly feeling the need to visit new places. Next weekend I will be going to Milan with some friends. I am starting small with trips just now.

Streetart in Vilnius, Lithuania

The October break saw myself and Alessio head off to Lithuania and the capital Vilnius. It is quite well known for the street art and one in particular which I could not find. The one depicting Donald Trump and Putin kissing, it was then changed to them sharing a cigarette. I would have loved to have seen it but sadly it was not to be.

We saw lots of other great works and there was a map where you can visit all the street art, we did see quite a lot but not all. Hope you enjoy looking at them.

The weekend past was in Barcelona and we had a lovely time. We were really lucky to have had really warm weather.

Just two more weeks left to work, well technically seven working days and then we are off to Scotland for Christmas.

Finally while I was in Scotland I managed to see half of the panels of The Great Tapestry of Scotland while it was in the Verdant Works in Dundee.

The tapestry has 160 panels which depicts the history of Scotland from 8500 BC up to 2013. The idea for the tapestry was from the Scottish writer Alexander McCall Smith and the designs were by Andrew Crummy.

Around 1000 volunteers from all over Scotland spent over a year stitching the different panels and the one for Dundee: Jute, Jam and Journalism was the one that my father, Alister Rutherford helped to make along with Eleanor Arthur, Jesse Sword, Margaret Purvis and Marilyn Rattray.

It has been shown in many different venues across Scotland such Stirling Castle, Verdant Works, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, the Scottish Parliament, Aberdeen, Kirkcaldy, New Lanark and a few more places.

It is really a fantastic piece of art work with so much time and effort having been put into each panel. The details and colours of the panels are just amazing and maybe one day I will see the other 80 panels.

The final resting place for the tapestry is as yet no 100% sure now, so we will wait to see where it will go!

From my weekend in Baden Baden, Germany I spotted this art work and thought it was quite interesting. No idea whereabouts in the city I saw it, but I wonder who they are looking around for!!

House Art

Two weekends ago Alessio and I were in Zurich at one of our favorite parks, on a whim I decided to walk to a different tram stop. This meant walking in a different direction from the way we normally go for our tram. I spotted these two art works, there was one more but not so interesting as these ones. Not so sure if I would like this on my apartment block, but I guess the tenants have no choice in the matter.

Which one do you like the best?

New Art Project in Zurich

This big beauty has been around since the beginning of April, a 30m high harbour crane which was brought all the way from the German port of Rostock. It is an art project with the name Zurich Transit Maritim and a winner of an international competition, as you can imagine it certainly has brought about lots of comments. It cost a whopping 600,000ch and will be around until the end of the year.

This is the second time I have seen it, and to be honest am unsure what to think about it. I do find it quite impressive when you are looking at it, but if it is art that is another thing altogether. From what I have read about it most people seem to really dislike it!

What are your opinions about it?

In October Alessio went on a hike from Andelfingen to Rheinau in Germany with my friend Aimee and her son Noah. We met in Andelfingen at the train station and it was there that I saw these little cuties, quite a novel idea.
