Lade Braes Walk, St.Andrews

We did a lovely walk called Lade Braes while we were in St.Andrews before my mother had to go to the dentist. It was a walk I had not done for a very, very long time.

We did not do the full walk but it was still nice to see parts of St.Andrews that I hadn't seen for many years. We started the walk at Cockshaugh Park and this had memories for me as my primary school sport day was held here every year. We walked alongside the Kinness Burn for part of the way and we saw lots of lovely Bluebells, I think it may become my favourite flower now.

It was busy with many people walking there dogs and we saw a school class out on a trip. Alessio enjoyed himself too, as he prefers walks in the nature as opposed to walking in cities.

St.Andrews West Sands

Wind blowing sand about!

Goodness how time has flied by and it is the end of April now! The last 6 weeks have been really busy what with 3 trips out of Switzerland, Alessio had his First Communion and my parents were here for too! I just got back this afternoon from a short trip to Cologne, more about that later on!

While Alessio and I were in Scotland we went to St.Andrews which we always do as this is where I go to the dentist. Once the visit was over at the dentist we went for some lunch and then into the town. We park down by the west sands and had a wonder on the beach, it was a sunny but windy day! The wind was blowing the sand which you can just about make out in the 6th photo, it looked quite cool!

My father was with us and he and Alessio went about shell collecting and Alessio found some long bits of wood too. It was just nice to see the sea for a change and see how peaceful it looked!

Then we headed off to pick up my mother who had been having lunch with some friends.

Happy New Year! Back from 10 days in Scotland with Alessio visiting my parents, my sister and her family. It is always great to go home, Christmas tends to be a manic time and we were all busy during these 10 days. Not only did we have Christmas to celebrate we had 2 birthdays, mine was on the 29th and then my mother on the 30th. Then the 3rd January is my nephew Jamie who turns 9 years old. And no I will not be telling you my age!!

Anyway this lovely fireplace is from the West Port bar in St.Andrews where we always go to visit and normally end up eating here. It looked very friendly and give out a warm feeling! Which is what you needed as practically the whole time is was very windy and rainy!

St.Andrews Cathedral

When I go back to Scotland for visits I always spend a day in St.Andrews, I lived here as a child and again as a young adult so it has lots of memories for me. Also my grandparents lived here too and I often visited them. Since today is St.Andrews Day, the patron saint of Scotland it seemed like a good idea to do a post on St.Andrews Cathedral.

We stopped by the Cathedral ruins as there is lots of space for Alessio to run around, there were quite a number of visitors in spite of the cold day.

St.Andrews Cathedral was the largest in Scotland, the building started around 1160 and in 1318 is was consecrated by Robert the Bruce. The large square tower you see in some of the photos is St.Rule Tower and if you want or able you can climb the 156 stairs and get a great view.

Even now with only ruins it is still impressive so I can only imagine how amazing it looked when it was completed.
