Photo of the Week - Food Art

Hope you are not feeling hungry!! This is taken in the Merrion Hotel in Dublin, we went there for a delicious afternoon tea, as part of our hen weekend for Hannah. This was the second course and the three desserts were based on paintings hanging in the hotel. I cannot tell you what ones, but maybe from the photo you can recognize then from the little card at the back. The hotel is beautiful all the rooms that I saw looked amazing, a bit out of my money range though!

Back in May I went to Dublin for a long weekend with a bunch of ladies it was a hen weekend. Now Hannah`s wedding is on Saturday in the UK, it has come so quickly.

We arrived on Thursday late evening, once checked into our rooms we headed to the bar next door for a few drinks.

Friday we visited the Guinness Storehouse which I have already posted about, we also went on those hop on and off buses. It was a good way to see Dublin, although taking photos was not so easy. With some spare time I decided to buy some books as they only cost 5 euros and some other bits and pieces. Friday evening we went to a restaurant and then to listen to some Irish music in a pub nearby.

Saturday all the group had arrived and we all went for afternoon tea in the Merrion Hotel, it was very posh and the food was wonderful. Then we all split up again, myself and two other ladies Riikka and Jo we did some sightseeing. We walked around the square with the Georgain houses and then we saw the statue of Oscar Wilde. We then went to St Stephens Green and walked around the park, then we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the evening.

In the evening we all had dinner in a bar and later on headed downstairs to the nightclub. Sunday was a quiet day as some were recovering from hangovers and we all headed home. 

It was a lovely weekend, we all had lots of fun and laughter!!

Guinness Storehouse in Dublin

While in Dublin part of our long (hen) weekend was to visit the Guinness storehouse, this was the first time for me, so was looking forward to it. Once inside you make your way to the first floor, there is a shop if you fancy buying anything. Then the tour begins with lots of old machinery, written information and videos informing us about how guinness is made. There are four ingredients used to make guinness barley, hops, water and yeast. There is also information about the Guinness family too.

Then there is a small tasting, I have to say that it is not really my favorite tipple (sorry). There are a number of restaurants and you can even learn how to pull your own pint correctly and get a certificate to prove it!

At the top is Gravity bar with 360 degree views of Dublin, there you can sit and enjoy your pint of guinness relaxing and looking at Dublin. We were lucky to get seats of us all, and no we did not drink all those empty pint glasses! It certainly would be cool to be there at night to get the lights!

Afterwards we hopped back onto the bus into Dublin centre, I managed to get a photo of the bar from the bus. It is a cool looking bar!

Photo of the Week - Fancy Me!

This brings back memories of the long weekend in Dublin, on Saturday morning myself and a friend (Riikka) were looking for a place to have breakfast. We found this cafe (cannot remember the name) and I order a coffee and some toast. Rather surprisingly the coffee came with this packet of munchies, sometimes you get a small biscuit but a whole packet of sweets is another thing. The place was fine and feeling refreshed we wandered off again to look around!

Dublin Words

Last weekend saw myself in Dublin for a hen weekend for the lovely Hannah, we were a group of 11 ladies from all over the world. So to continue my series of words from the different cities I visit, here we go with Dublin. Of course there were plenty of pubs to chose from and all had great names. The street names are written in both English and Irish, I really liked the sign for the Little Museum of Dublin and would have liked to visit it as it was showing photos of the early days of U2.

I had to take the photo of the shop with my name and the last photo is a quote from Oscar Wilde which is next to his statue. While in Dublin we visited the Guinness Storehouse and I have lots of photos from that so will do a separate post, so the Guinness gate photo for will have to do for now!
