Photo of the Week - Garraferia do Carmo

Photo of the Week comes from the beautiful city of Porto, I cannot say enough about this city, I love Porto!

I took lots of photos so there will be some posts about this city to come, but in the meanwhile this is a lovely drinks shop I saw a few times. I have not been inside but I thought it looked nice the was they have the bottles in the windows.

I brought back two bottles of Port wine and a bottle of white wine from the Azores which I will drink when my parents visit in September.

Wishing you a good mid week!

A Walk Around Zurich

It is now 3 weeks since the renovations started in my kitchen and to be honest it is really getting to get on my nerves. So on Mondays which is the day I do not work I usually take off to avoid the dust and noise of the workmen!

I drove around a bit and finally ended up parking along the lake, from there I decided to walk into Zurich and explore some parts of the city. The area up from the Niederdorf street has some lovely small streets to explore and buildings to see. Then I came to Neumarkt which is a great area with lots of cool shops, made my way to Central. By this stage I was quite tired, so I made a break and stepped into a bookstore.

I then had to make my way back to the car park to be in time for Alessio coming home from school. So I will be happy when everything is finished at the end of this week.

Photo of the Week - Easter Window

This Easter weekend was very quiet and hardly anything happened. I did though on Easter Monday leave the flat and have dinner with a friend and see a movie called The Grand Hotel Budapest, which is very good if you are at all interested to know.

Just after finishing dinner and before the movie started we wondered around the area where the cinema is situated in Zurich. I like this part of Zurich there are interesting shops and old buildings to check out. Anyway hope you all had a lovely Easter!

Photo of the Week - Even Numbers!

The photo of the week comes to you from Stirling in Scotland, after our visit to the castle we walked down this street in search of a coffee shop. I happened to notice the shop number signs and thought it looked quite interesting. A little different to the usual kind, the only thing is the number 4 is very hard to see, but is there right at the bottom of the sign in the middle. You may have to click onto the photo to see it at all.
Just booked our tickets to go back to Scotland for October! How far in advance you book flights? Never know if I should wait nearer the time and maybe it is cheaper or by then it is too late to get any tickets at all!

Happy Valentine Day!

Stockholm Words!

Last weekend I was in Stockholm with some friends, it was a great weekend and we had lovely weather. We did lots of walking and enjoyed ourselves looking at everything. We saw lots of lovely design shops as you would expect to see in Sweden, and I fancied it all!

On the walk back to our hostel went via the shore and saw lots of lovely boats. So many people out and about, we sat and people watched too. I will be back in Sweden in August but only for a day to see Mälmo as we are staying for a week in Copenhagen and we will do a day trip. Looking forward to that!

Shop Signs

One of the interesting things about walking around old parts of cities are that often the shop signs literally stand out for you to gaze upon. The first 8 photos are in Zurich and the area behind the Niederdorf, the signs are not just for shops but for bars, restaurants and galleries. I like the hat sign and the old train engine which  is actually a very small restaurant.

The next 6 photos were taken yesterday in Zug, it was a beautiful sunny, cold day, Alessio and I went for the afternoon. There were two oldish streets where I saw the signs, I like the one with the old fashioned weighting scales.

Which ones do you like?

It is nearly Christmas Day and over the last three weeks whenever I have been in Zurich I have been busy snapping away at lots of Christmas sights. I really love Christmas and the build up in Zurich is usually lovely.

It starts with the Santa parade at the end of November, then comes the 6th December which is St.Nikolas day when all the kids gets a bag full of goodies. Of course there are the many Christmas markets to visit all over Zurich and not to mention Switzerland and the rest of Europe. There is nothing better than standing in the cold and drinking Glühwein to warm yourself up!

There are lots of shows to see and on Saturday Alessio is going to Circus Conelli, never been myself but it is supposed to be good! Only for kids there is the Märli tram which Santa drives and there are angels telling stories, Alessio did not want to go this year!

Quite a lot of people have their birthdays in December (me included) and there are the usual Christmas celebrations to enjoy! This year Alessio and I stay in Zurich for the whole holidays, but we have a lot planned to keep us busy.

Enjoy the holidays this Christmas!
