Colourful Madrid

Some bright and colourful photos of my trip to Madrid in May last year with my sister Elena, I do really like to see colourful buidlings. I have basically told you all about the trip in the other posts, so I won`t bore you guys again with more information.

This my sister and I are not having a trip away this year, but in 2017 we will have another one. Already ideas are floating around Morocco, Latvia and Lithuania. Anybody got some other ideas?

Bits of Madrid

My sister and I usually try to have a long weekend away each year, this year we went to Madrid. I had already visited this city but about 17 years ago, so I was quite happy to go again.

We visited all the major sites, the Royal Palace, Prado Museum, Buen Retiro Park, Plaza Major, Temple of Debod, Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Market San Miquel and a few more sites.

We also took a cable car ride to Casa de Campo park, it gives you great views of the city and the river Manzanares and some bridges too. We had a great idea of once we got to the park we could walk back to the city. This was clearly not going to happen as it looked a lot farer to walk back than we thought, so we took the cable car back. In all honestly not really sure if it is worth a trip, the views are great but not breathtaking!

I think I am safe in saying that our visit to the San Miquel Market was a hit, it was full of great food and drinks. I did a post on that so if you want to see what is on offer, have a look!

We had a great long weekend and as usual it was great to see my sister. We plan to visit Ljubljana in Slovenia for our next trip but that is not for quite a while.

Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

While my sister Elena and I were in Madrid in May we visited the Real Madrid football stadium Santiago Bernabeu.

Saturday morning we made our way to the stadium, once there we finally found where to get tickets and made our way to the tour start. As you can imagine it was quite busy, to start the tour which is without a guide you go to the top and work your way downwards.

So at first you see the whole stadium which is quite awesome, from up top you can only imagine what it would be like to be there when it is full of spectators. We were able to sit in the seats and then inside you can see lots of memorabilia, the trophies they have won, old footballs, kits, books, shoes and much, much more.

You then walk around other areas, but the changing rooms were not opened to the public as if I remember correctly they were playing that evening.

There is a huge store to buy lots of Real Madrid stuff which we did not do, in fact we did visit a sport shop and my sister and I bought our kids a FC Barcelona t-shirt.

My whole family are in fact Barcelona supporters and hope to one day visit their stadium and even see them play! But it certainly was a great experience to see the Bernabeu stadium!

Mercado San Miguel

During our trip to Madrid, my sister and I visited the Mercado San Miguel which is located quite near the Plaza Major. It is nice building and inside are many different stalls where you can eat and drink. A small area to sit down and eat but mainly you stand to eat or drink. We decided to have a drink (surprise surprise I hear you say), as it was around 5pm it was not so busy. We stopped at one of the many bars and decided to have sangria with prosecco!

It was really delicious, so we had another! I can recommend that combination which we hope to have again when we are both in Portugal next week!

It really is worth a visit and I am sure you will be tempted to have some refreshments!

Madrid Words!

I was in Madrid this past weekend, my sister came from Scotland and we had a great 4 days exploring Madrid. It has been a while since I have done a post like this, I really liked the street names they looked very nice made with ceramic tiles. Seeing all the photos now on the computer, I should have taken much more!!
