This is about my life in Zurich, all the places I visit, what I get up to with my son and anything I think is good to blog about.

Photo of the Week - Pigeons Galore!
This is in Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona, we went there on our first evening. The place was full of pigeons and Alessio was happy to walk through the whole bunch of them. Then this family was feeding them until suddenly someone walked a bit to near and they all buggered off! I have to say that I don`t really like the idea of all these birds around my head, when they fly off!
Wishing you all a good mid week!

Photo of the Week - Black Ink Fountain
Photo of the week is from Luxembourg, we visited the MUDAM which is the Musée d`Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean. It shows contemporary art and we both liked many of the pieces (well as much as Alessio can like an art museum). This was my favorite piece black ink fountain by Su-Mei Tse.
Wishing you all a happy mid -week!

Photo of the Week - Giant Rhubarb
Photo of the Week come from the Island of Iona, while we were walking to visit the Abbey we spotted this plant. The leaves looked like they were from rhubarb which we all agreed but could not see any rhubarb. Then someone walking by a local no doubt told us that it was rhubarb but Giant Rhubarb from South America!
Latin name is Gunnera manicata or for us Brazilian giant rhubarb which is native from Colombia to Brazil. I will just say that it is not related to rhurbarb at all!
This weekend I am going to Luxembourg with Alessio, never been there so we will see how it is! It does look lovely Luxembourg City from the pictures I have seen and hopefully it will not rain!

Photo of the Week - Sheep on the Road
Photo of the week is from the amazing Isle of Mull, we drove around the island on single tracks roads which were sometimes a bit scary. The fields were full of mostly sheep but also cows and the roads also had not just vehicles but animals too. We saw lots of sheep just munching grass on the side and also at times they just wondered over the road to get to better grazing spots. It was really nice to see them and these chaps in the photos were going for wonder along the road. They were not at all bothered by the car.
Lots of great photos to show from Mull to come in the future!

photo of the Week - Bike or Vespa!
The weeks go by and now it is October, I am still off my work due to my accident to my foot. I have never had so much time off work for medical reasons. Anyway I have been reading lots of books and watching dvds too!
I spotted this in Zurich and thought it looked interesting bike and vespa against each other! Which one do you like?

Photo of the Week - Independence!
While in Ponte Delgada this summer we saw lots of fantastic street art, which I have already posted about.
Behind this photo is a bit of story, while we were on one of our tours of the island we had a guide who was from the Azores. He was very nice and was able to give us lots of information about the island and the Azores in general. While we were having our lunch the whole group got talking about politics as you do! We touched on the subject of Scottish independence and the group made their views known. The guide asked if we had seen the street art in the town about independence, we of course said we had seen it. He explained that that was his father, he mentioned also that there is a group that would like to see the Azores become independent!
It is always very interesting the people who you meet and talk to when you are travelling!
This Thursday see the start of the Zurich Film Festival, the tickets have been on sale for over a week and basically all the films which have the actors coming are sold out. I have tickets to see American Pastoral directed by Ewan McGregor (he will be here plus his co-star Jennifer Conelly) and War on Everyone directed by John Michael McDonagh (Alexander Skarsgard will be here OMG!!).

Photo of the Week - Butterfly House
It has been a while since I did a photo of the week, so here comes one now. It is from the butterfly house on the Island of Mainau, which is in Constance, Germany. It is a beautiful flower island which was the main reason we visited and there will be another post about that to come.
I am not a fan of going into places like that where things fly around my head, it makes me feel uncomfortable, like I may stand on one of the creatures. So once I was in it, it was a mad dash to get to the end, everyone was enjoying themselves and I was ducking and diving whenever one of the butterflies flew towards me. I managed a few photos but most were all blurry, this is one of the few if not the only one that is decent!

Photo of the Week - Garraferia do Carmo
Photo of the Week comes from the beautiful city of Porto, I cannot say enough about this city, I love Porto!
I took lots of photos so there will be some posts about this city to come, but in the meanwhile this is a lovely drinks shop I saw a few times. I have not been inside but I thought it looked nice the was they have the bottles in the windows.
I brought back two bottles of Port wine and a bottle of white wine from the Azores which I will drink when my parents visit in September.
Wishing you a good mid week!

Photo of the Week - Rainbow Style
Photo of the week comes a day late but I could not find one and then I remembered I had some on my camera still. So I put them on the computer and this is from Saturday, I went to see an opera which was shown on a big screen right outside the Zurich Opera House.
The opera was called Pique Dame in English it is called The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky, it was set in Russian.
It was great to see it outdoors, everything was good until the second half it started to rain. I sat through it until the end, but I was glad to get home though. We were rewarded with a lovely rainbow during the performance!

Photo of the Week - Window Pic
Hello from extremely rainy Zurich, it has been raining for days and days and it looks like it will continue from more days to come. The exception is only Friday may be nice!
Anyway this was taken on Sunday in Zurich, I was wondering around the city, which I have not done for ages. I had visited the Design Museum and had some time to pass until the cinema started at 2pm, I really like to see this part of Zurich.
This weekend is exciting as I am going to see COLDPLAY and it is an outdoor concert so will be needing my rain jacket by the look of things. It will be my 4th time but they are one of my favorite bands ever!

Photo of the Week - Looking Down
It is mid week and the photo is from Zagreb, while we were in Slovenia we had a day trip to Zagreb which is in Croatia. We went up a building from some great views and this is one of the many photos I took. It you have not ever been to Zagreb then you should it is a lovely city and sadly we had only one day to explore!
This weekend is a football one for us, Alessio has a match on Saturday and on Sunday we are going to St.Gallen to see a friendly match between Spain and Bosnia. I am really looking forward to see Spain play, especially the players from FC Barcelona.

Photo of the Week - I`m Watching You!
Photo this week is from Cologne, we had been wondering around for ages and Alessio was getting to the stage of wanting to go to the hotel when I saw this fellow!
He is sitting on the ledge and below is a camera shop, we both thought it was quite cool!
I am always happy when Thursday is finished as that means I can start my weekend! Friday is a day of housework for me and every second Friday a friend of Alessio has lunch with us. Tomorrow I am finally changing my winter tyres to summer ones, I guess most people have done it already, I am a little late by who cares!
Have a great Friday!

Photo of the Week - Knitted Bike!
So we are coming up to mid May already, last weekend was a long one and sadly I did not do much as I came down with a cold. This weekend there is another long weekend and hopefully I will be recovered, as I have lots of plans!
I saw this knitted bike in a shop in Cologne which I visited two weeks, it is quite cool!

Photo of the Week - Daffodils Galore!
Yesterday we returned from an extended weekend in Scotland, we had a great time and did lots of things. One of the things I noticed was an abundance of daffodils everywhere, they looked amazing, a sea of yellow!
This photo does not really show how wonderful it really is, there were just loads of them and not just here!
The good thing about having two days off during the week is that now I only have one working day left and next week I am working only three days (sorry about the boasting). Alessio has two weeks holiday starting at the weekend.
Wishing you all a good rest of the week!
