Christmas in Zurich!

It seems ages since we had Christmas but it is actually only just over two weeks, this Christmas I stayed in Zurich. I spent most of my time at the Christmas market at Bellevue as it had such a great variety of food stalls. Alessio also enjoyed this market too, as he wanted to eat the Luma Burger every time we visited the place. It was really delicious though!

I am looking forward to this weekend as I am going to Barcelona with Alessio and we are going to see FC Barcelona play on Saturday at Camp Nou against Las Palmas! The tickets were a birthday present for Alessio and part of his Christmas present is money to spend in the FC Barcelona football shop!

Christmas in Zurich

These photos were taken over the last two weeks, the usual Christmas markets have sprung up in the usual places. The Christmas market at Bellevue is very nice, this one is new with lots of food and drink huts. For the first time, there is an ice rink and of course it is always very busy. One of the good things about Christmas markets is drinking yummy gluhwein,( mulled wine).

There are Christmas trees all over the place,  lovely lights and shop windows are all nicely decorated. At Burliplatz there is the usual candle making place, Alessio has been making candles since the end of November and enjoys the whole process. He has made around 7 candles and some of them are presents for me I think!

Anyway it is hard to believe on Friday it will be Christmas Day, it has passed quite quickly this month. On Wednesday we leave for Scotland and both of us are looking for to see the family!

Colmar Christmas Markets

In December last year I went to Colmar to see the Christmas markets with my friend Arlene, we drove there from Zurich which takes just under 2 hours. It was a Sunday so the town was extremely busy but we managed to get a parking space.

There were many different markets all over the town so we wandered around them all. The town is very very picturesque with lovely buildings, and then with all the Christmas decorations it looked even more lovely. Colmar also has lots of canals and is sometimes know as "little Venice" which you can see in some of the photos.

We stopped for some mulled wine and eventually queued up for the typical food from the Alsace tarte flambee. The Christmas markets had all the usual stuff to buy, toys, candles, lights and much more.

We did have trouble finding a cafe in the town centre, all the restaurants were busy as you would expect. Eventually we find one and had a yummy hot chocolate to keep us warm, by this time it started to get dark and we could see how the town looked all lit up. Sadly I could not upload those photos for some reason.

Colmar is a great place to visit in any season!

Christmas Cheer from Zurich!

I can hardly believe how fast the time has flown by since the beginning of december, it just feels like I was just in Munich! Tomorrow is my last day at work and the Christmas concert by the children, so I guess it will be a stressful but fun day! Friday Alessio and I go to Scotland, which is always great to see my parents, sister and family and other family members! Alessio is very excited to see his cousins Jamie and Liam!

Zurich is looking as always very festive, full of lovely lights, fanastic Christmas trees,  great window decorations and of course the Christmas markets. I have hardly seen any of the markets this year, basically the one at the main station, which is the largest indoor Christmas market in Europe. It was always really busy but I went twice and had my usual Glühwein.

A trip to the Lindt chocolate factory to keep the folk back home happy has been done and dusted,  the factory itself looks very festive. There are many places to buy Christmas trees alround the city, of course this year we do not have one, but next year we will!

So it is back to the packing and wrapping for a bit!
