Happy New Year and welcome to 2020, we are back to Zurich after a lovely time in Scotland with my family. As usual I do a recap of my adventures in 2019 and they look like this:

Jan - I was still in Bali, then along with Arlene we returned to Singapore for a day or so

Feb - I went to Barcelona with Arlene and we met up with my father, also Arlene and I went to Andorra.

April - The beginning of this month Alessio and I went to Bratsilava, Slovakia and then in the school holidays to Scotland

June - I went to the Ukraine with Arlene

July - Again with Arlene we went to Rome

August - Saw us back to Scotland, where I went to Edinburgh and with my parents to the Orkney Islands.

October - Alessio and I went to Vilnius, Lithuania

Dec - I went to Barcelona with Alessio and again met up with my father and finally the ended the year in Scotland

My travels plans for 2020 are already quite planned for until the summer. Who has already made plans for this year?

Lake Bled, Slovenia

Back in March I visited Slovenia with my friend Arlene and one of our day trips was to Lake Bled. We took the bus there and once we arrived we wondered down to the lake, it really is such a wonderful place! We decided to walk up to the castle, which was really exhausting, it is not a long walk but uphill seemed to take ages. Once up the view is stunning of the church on the island on the lake and of the mountains and surrounding area.

We had coffee and cake, not just any cake but the Bled cream cake which tasted really delicious. Then we walked back down and started to walk around the lake with a little help of the tourist train. It is 6km walk around the lake but we did not do the whole lake just a bit of it.

There is the possibility to visit the church on the island on the traditional boat called the Peltna which is only made in Bled, it takes 20 people and you are rowed there by the Pletna oarsman. We did not do this but it would have been nice to see the interesting on the island.

A visit to Lake Bled is one of the big tourist places to visit and if we had had more time, I would have like to visit Lake Bohinj.

During the Easter break I visited Slovenia and one of the day trips I did was to Lake Bled. It was really a wonderful place and I will do another post about Lake Bled, but here is a photo of the island on the lake with the church.

The longest rail tunnel in the world is in Switzerland. It makes going to Milan easier as a day trip!

I do like to see street art, here in Sardinia it looks very interesting

The new film with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling does look very funny and rather violent!

Street art in Ljubljana

While I was in Ljubljana over Easter I saw some great street art, this is one of the many things I like about visiting cities is that you can see lots of street art.

This is another long weekend with Monday a holiday here in Switzerland, it has been raining cats and dogs since yesterday. It may clear up on Sunday and Monday, if it does then Alessio and myself will go for a hike.

Tomorrow Alessio and I are off to Scotland for a extended weekend, my father is turning 70yrs old Monday. We will have four full days so it will be busy time for us

While I am in Scotland I will finally get to see The Great Tapestry of Scotland! Part of it is showing in Dundee at the Verdant Works

My father helped stitch some of the tapestry set in Dundee, here is some information about the tapestry.

Postcards from Ljubljana

During the Easter weekend I went away to visit the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. It is a very lovely city and very small indeed, that really two days is quite enough to see it all. We didn`t visit any museums as they were all closed for Easter, there were a few which looked interesting though.

Our hotel was right in the centre and all the major sights were within walking distance. The castle which looms high about the city is reachable with a funicular. Once up there are some nice views and we visited some parts of the castle and stopped for a coffee.

The main square has the wonderfully colourful Francisan Church of the Annunication and the Triple bridge. It is as the name says three bridges connected together and joins the old town to the new town. The city is full of lovely coloured buildings and walking along the river is a great way to see these buildings, the river and many bars and cafes. There are many bridges here are some of the names the Butchers, Cobblers and the Dragon bridge.

Ljubljana is situated in the middle of Slovenia, therefore you can visit many places as a day trip. We visited Lake Bled and also went to Zagreb in Croatia. Also not far and would have been really nice to visit was Trieste in Italy. More about these day trips at a later date.

Towards the end of this week Alessio and I go to Scotland, my father turns 70 next Monday, so we will celebrate that at the weekend.
