This is about my life in Zurich, all the places I visit, what I get up to with my son and anything I think is good to blog about.

New Art Project in Zurich
This big beauty has been around since the beginning of April, a 30m high harbour crane which was brought all the way from the German port of Rostock. It is an art project with the name Zurich Transit Maritim and a winner of an international competition, as you can imagine it certainly has brought about lots of comments. It cost a whopping 600,000ch and will be around until the end of the year.
This is the second time I have seen it, and to be honest am unsure what to think about it. I do find it quite impressive when you are looking at it, but if it is art that is another thing altogether. From what I have read about it most people seem to really dislike it!
What are your opinions about it?

Photo of the Week - Easter Window
This Easter weekend was very quiet and hardly anything happened. I did though on Easter Monday leave the flat and have dinner with a friend and see a movie called The Grand Hotel Budapest, which is very good if you are at all interested to know.
Just after finishing dinner and before the movie started we wondered around the area where the cinema is situated in Zurich. I like this part of Zurich there are interesting shops and old buildings to check out. Anyway hope you all had a lovely Easter!

Flowers
From one day to another the weather has changed from warm, sunny and blue skies to rain, overcast grey skies! So some photos to remind us of warmer days!
As it is a long weekend most people make the most and go away, for some reason I have usually always stayed in Zurich during Easter. It can be nice to stay as the city is much quieter, but alas the little one woke up not feeling so good.
Anyway Happy Easter!

Another Walk from the Zoo to Forch
Viewing tower Lorenchopf |
Tree tunnel |
Strong man! |
World War I Monument |
Yours Truly! |
Nearly a hour into the walk we came to the viewing tower, we did not climb it but you would get some good views. We stopped at a very nice restaurant which was very busy as the day had become lovely, but cannot remember the name. Then we carried on with nice views of the countryside, seeing some horse riders too. Eventually we made our way to the town of Forch but before you reach it you come to a monument. It is dedicated to the Zurich men who fought in WW1, which is 18m high.
So all that was left to do was to find the train station and hop on a train back to Zurich! Hopefully soon we will get another walk in!

Berne Gurten
Amazing view of Berne |
At the beginning of March we had an outing to Berne, to go up its local mountain Gurten at 858m. Once in Berne we took a tram which takes you Wabern and to the Gurten funicular and in a short time we reached the top.
There is quite a lot to keep you busy such as hiking, a viewing tower, art work on view, hotel and restaurant. For the kids there is a big play area, mini cars and train, and if enough snow skiing and sledging. The day we were there it was still rather cold and just some traces of snow. Not that the cold stopped Alessio from enjoying all there was on offer, it was just me who was suffering waiting for Alessio. Eventually he had a break and we went to the self service restaurant for coffee and cake.
There are a number of hikes you can do and we decided to walk back down, which took just over one hour. It was around this time that the sun decided to make an warmly welcomed appearance. From the top you have a wonderful views of Berne, the Jura mountains and of course the Alps.
This is really a great place to visit and would recommend it!

Photo of the Week - Hippo Time
On Sunday Alessio and I went to Zurich zoo, I had thought of going on a hike but changed my mind. It was great weather and the zoo was busy. Alessio chose what animals to see and towards the end we ended up at the hippo area. This fellow was minding his own business and suddenly he decided to look at me, I was the only person there and well open his mouth. I just snapped away and managed to get this shot. Well I like it!
