A Scottish Walk

The last Sunday of our holiday in Scotland we went for a walk with my parents, my sister, Liam and Jamie. We drove to just outside Falkland village to the Craigmead car park, our walk would descend through Maspie Den back into the village via the Yad waterfall around 3 miles.

We passed by East Lomond Hill on our way down and had great views on the countryside, the boys are great fun just running in front of everyone. Eventually it gets to be quite muddy and we descended down to the waterfall, carefully trying not to fall. It was quite busy and the paths were quite narrow, once at the waterfall you can walk behind them and we all got our photos taken.

We continued down the path which it did kind of criss-cross back and forth over the Maspie burn, we came across come nice wooden bridges.

Then we came to a tunnel, the boys collected many sticks to amuse themselves, we noticed that lots of trees had been uprooted, I guess there had been many storms this spring.

We then walked through the Falkland Estate and into the village where we headed off to find a cafe for our well deserved refreshments.

A lovely way to finish our holiday as the next day we headed back to Zurich, next time we are in Scotland will be Christmas.

Art Basel

So this is my last post from Art Basel, I went in the middle of June on a very hot day. It was the last day but still very busy, we visited the furniture design and a couple of halls with paintings.

Most of the art was very interesting and some if I had lots of cash maybe would have bought. There was definitely some strange art too and some stuff that I did not like. The good thing about art is that you can have the discussion as to what is art and why are certain paintings looking like anyone could do them.

The second last photo was live art, did not see what exactly they were doing though! The new extension hall at Messe Basel Exhibition Centre was designed by Herzog & de Meuron and it does look really interesting to see, it was only finished in February this year.

Swiss Day!

For Swiss Day this year my sister and her family were visiting so they got a chance to experience this day. First off they all went to the badi as it was an extremely hot day, afterwards in the evening we all went to my friend`s flat Arlene to grill. We all brought food and drink and had a great time talking and laughing away.

Then we wondered down to the lake to get our spots for the fireworks, there are usually fireworks on this day in most places. It was really an amazing display, plus we saw all over the lake lots of other fireworks, which was really cool. The boats on the lake also looked cool as they were all lit up.

I am off to Copenhagen for a week and glad to escape this heat.

Photo of the Week - Oh la la!

While my sister and I were wandering around Stockholm, we walked passed the town hall ( I think) and looked inside and thought it looked lovely. So we decided to explore the huge courtyard and the sea, as it was situated right on the front.

Imagine our surprise we saw not only one couple getting married, maybe around 6 couples tying the knot. Then I noticed this lady showing her garter to her new husband who was taking the photo, and I also took a photo! She did look really lovely! This was certainly unexpected to see, but really nice.

Calvin Harris in Stockholm!

The first weekend in July was spent in Stockholm and the main reason for the trip was to see Calvin Harris live. It really was a amazing time, we saw two djs in the beginning called Heyman & Müller, then next was Burns and finally out came Calvin. The whole show was just brilliant with the lights, lasers and special effects like smoke and other stuff.

The venue was also very interesting, at the Ericsson Globe Arena, which is the currently the largest hemispherical building in the world, it is shaped like a white ball and took 2.5 years to build.

If you ever get a chance to see him live, then I would recommend it totally. Next I will see Robbie Williams in Zurich, looking forward to that!

Flowers!!

Last weekend Alessio and I had a day trip to the Ticino, we went by train to Airolo, then a bus to Piotta, where we got a cable car to take us to Lake Ritom.

It was a lovely day, in fact too hot, we walked the 25mins to the lake. On the way we saw lots of wonderful looking flowers and there were also lots of butterflies. I have no idea what kind of flowers they are, maybe someone knows the names.

I will post about the trip another time and apparently we went on the steepest cable car in Europe, according to the brochure.
