Views from the castle

This was our first trip from Amsterdam and I was looking forward to see Leiden. It is quite near to Amsterdam, although it took us ages to get there due to the train crash that happened Saturday evening. Once there we had a quick lunch and started to get a feel of the city. Very near to the train station is the windmill museum that we visited and I have already blogged about this place.

Apparently after Amsterdam it has the most canals which we saw many and they were all lovely to see, it also helped that the weather was wonderful. We met up with Helen and Simon for a coffee, they are the daughter and her husband of friends of my parents from Scotland.

Afterwards we climbed lots of stairs for views of Leiden from the castle which was very nice to see, everyone was out and about enjoying the lovely weather. We saw lots of lovely shops in the old part, thankfully they were closed!

After our visit to the windmill we stopped at a lovely pub for a few beers (no photos) it did seem like a local place rather than a tourist one. It was nice to sit and see the locals, Alessio also found a friend to play with for a while.

All in all we had a great time and we all think Leiden is a lovely place to visit.
